Overview
What experience actually looks like.
Experience placements are IPSW's most demanding pillar — and our most distinctive. Every student completes a minimum of 480 supervised practice hours, in placement settings vetted by our Field Education Office.
Settings include tertiary hospitals (TUTH, Patan), school counselling cells, mental health NGOs and provincial rural mental health programmes. Each placement is supervised by a licensed practitioner.

Each phase builds on the last — fieldwork, supervision and reflective practice are interleaved rather than stacked.
Pre-placement seminar
Risk, safeguarding, documentation, supervision contracts and dual-role ethics.
Placement Block A
Three days a week in placement, two in seminar — with weekly individual supervision.
Placement Block B
A second placement in a contrasting setting (hospital ↔ community).
Integration & review
Portfolio review, viva and a written reflective integration paper.
WhatyoucarryforwardfromExperience.
Outcomes are written as capabilities you take with you — not credit hours.
Clinical competence
You can hold an intake, conduct a structured assessment and write a defensible case formulation.
Supervision literacy
You learn to use supervision well — preparing, presenting and integrating feedback.
Stamina and self-care
You leave with an honest understanding of the emotional weight of practice — and how to sustain it.
Network and references
Most Experience graduates are offered roles by their placement organisations.

“My field placement in a rural mental health programme changed how I see practice. IPSW supervisors held me to high standards and stayed with me through every difficult case.”

“I now lead a psychosocial team in Surkhet. The supervised practice hours at IPSW were the closest thing to a real clinic I had encountered.”
